APVV-17-0064 Analysis of the multidimensional form of trans- and post-humanism / Member of the research collective / Project time span: 2018 - 2022 / Project description: The main goal of the project is a multidimensional transdisciplinary research on the inter-dynamic relationships related to the issue of human gene editing and post-humanism in five research domains: biology-biotechnology, philosophical reflection, (bio)ethical reflection, biopolitical analysis and democratization of science, art and culture. Specifically, the project focuses on philosophical reflection on the concept of trans and posthumanism, with an emphasis on the editing of the human genome in the germ cell line in relation to human nature, genetic determinism, and the aesthetic transformation of the human body. The project analyzes the issue of the transformation of the human biological species H. sapiens in the context of the controversy between realist versus social-constructivist understandings of biological categorization. At the level of bioethical and biopolitical re-reflection, the project analyses the impact of trans- and posthumanist modification of the human genome on society, on its political institutions and regulatory capacities, on the process of democratisation of science and the phenomenon of biohacking. On the cultural and artistic level, the project focuses on the analysis of the artistic representation of trans- and posthumanism in anti-utopian literary, new media, film and television science fiction works. It also includes an analysis of the metaphorical language of molecular geneticists, most recently represented by the term 'gene editing'.
SSH Research Council of Canada 435-2017-0061 Islamophobia in the East of the European Union / člen riešiteľského kolektívu / Project description: A worrying degree of Islamophobia in the eastern, formerly communist‐ruled parts of the European Union has been reported in the scholarly press and especially in the media. The region has displayed consistent opposition by political parties and citizen groups to Muslim migrants, including refugees to the European Union, though few have settled there as opposed to western Europe. The target of our study are the so‐called "Visegrad Four" (V4) countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary) and eastern Germany. In the V4 countries, disagreement with EU directives on immigration has been voiced by the ruling parties and the government, employing rhetoric that sometimes resembles that of the far‐right fringe both in the East and the West. This opposition is threatening cohesion within the EU on its eastern flank, at a time when it is already damaged by the exit of Great Britain and the threat of exit by Greece. Thus Islamophobia in the region may have important consequences for the future of Europe. Studying Islamophobia in a region where daily experience with Muslims is rare provides an opportunity to reveal, more sharply than elsewhere, how anti‐Muslim prejudice may arise independently of local experience, masking local concerns by a racist and xenophobic rhetoric. Identifying those concerns is the main aim of the proposed study. / Termín: 2017 – 2022
INTERREG V-A SK-CZ/2016/01 Joint educational programme of cross-border excursion teaching / member of the research team / Duration: 2018 - 2020 / Abstract: The aim is to create a joint course "Excursion Teaching", which would be part of the course offer at the Faculty of Education of the Masaryk University Brno and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Trnava. The course would be intended for students of the Teacher Education for Citizenship/Citizenship Education combinations. The students of both universities would take a joint field trip course, which would introduce them to the specifics of the regions of the Trnava Region and the South Moravian Region. The project would also have a potential promotional value for improving the attractiveness of the fields of study (civic education, foundations of social sciences, philosophy and applied philosophy). The main benefit would be interstate and interregional cooperation, which could be used in the teaching of Education for Citizenship. The planned project also includes the creation of a web portal promoting these regions, and the preparation of promotional and teaching materials.
APVV-17-0128 Comparison of linguistic strategies of right-wing populism (Germany - Austria - Czech Republic - Slovakia): lexis - texts - discourses / member of the research team / Duration of the project: 2018 - 2021 / Abstract: The project is devoted to the comparison of linguistic specificities and linguistic strategies of right-wing populists in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. To this end, corpora with representative textual material will be created in the initial phase of the project. Based on the collected material, the next step will identify typical lexis. Based on the analysis of texts and characteristic discourses, the thematic and argumentative strategies of right-wing-populist statements and speeches will then be examined in more detail. The given research steps will first be carried out differentially for each of the countries under study, and the results found will then be compared, allowing to specify the similarities and differences between the linguistic strategies of right-wing populists in the four countries. Thanks to the interdisciplinary approach, the results of the analysis of linguistic specificities will be interpreted in the broader context of not only political and cultural interactions, but also psycho-social motives and relationships. From a pedagogical and didactic perspective, the research results will be evaluated with regard to their further applicability and transferability to the field of education. Due to the comprehensive focus of the project, the research results are expected to contribute to the development of competence to identify and deconstruct the linguistic strategies of right-wing populism
