VEGA No. 1/0534/25: The Biopolitical Turn Towards a Posthuman Politics of Life, 2025 – 2028, deputy project investigator
Project description: The project aims to analyse changes in the current biopolitical paradigm. The ability of emergent technologies to modify basic life processes leads to a new configuration of social and political relations. At the same time, in the context of the critique of anthropocentrism, there is a growing need to broaden the perspective of biopolitics to include the dimension of sustainability and protection of human and non-human life forms. In this situation, the project aims to analyse new emerging biopolitical mechanisms and socio-political practices that aim to regulate the lives of individuals, and populations and, in a broader post-human sense, to regulate and protect life itself, and to explore the extent to which these practices can withstand the potential risks and threats associated with their liminal forms. We will use examples from literature research laboratories that anticipate many of the risks of biopolitical solutions and test the parameters of liminal forms of socio-political approaches to confront them.
VEGA No. 2/0163/22: Literature in Bioethics and Bioethics in Literature, 2022 – 2025, investigator.
Project description: The project is inspired by the concept of interdiscursive relations, whose author is the leading French linguist D. Maingueneau (2004), and the idea of narrative bioethics (H. Dubiel 2011). The object of investigation in the present project is the analysis of the relations between literary (media) and bioethical (philosophical) discourse. The project aims to push the boundaries of the study of the interdiscursive communication between literature (broadly conceived) and bioethics from the traditional analysis of the depiction of the doctor-patient relationship in literature towards the so-called humanistic turn in bioethics. Methodologically, this means that literature and art create a space for enriching the narrowly rationalistic ethical discourse with humanistic and philosophical-psychological aspects, including phenomenological and hermeneutical approaches to applied ethics, especially bioethics.
2021 – 2024 VEGA 1/0020/21 Development of the concept of shame in ancient and contemporary moral philosophy with an emphasis on its ethical functions. FF UMB, Banská Bystrica, principal investigator doc. Mgr. Ulrich Wollner, PhD. My position in the project: researcher. In ancient times, the category of "shame" was one of the most important in practical philosophical discourse. In the twentieth century, this category, although not dominantly, became the subject of reflection in psychoanalysis, phenomenology, and existentialism. The project aims to examine the transformations of the forms and functions of the concept of shame in ancient and contemporary moral philosophy. We focus on the different meanings of the ancient Greek terms "aidós" and "aischyné," which can be translated as shame. We concentrate on the meanings that these concepts (and their Latin equivalents) acquired from Homer to Seneca. In contemporary moral-philosophical thinking dealing with the category of shame, we will follow two basic lines: 1) a return to its ancient origins; 2) examination from the perspective of its moral transformative potential. We consider the examination of the issue of transformations in the understanding of the meanings of the concept of shame and reflection on its moral consequences and associations to be beneficial, especially given the insufficient representation of such research in domestic philosophical discourse.
2018 - 2021 APVV-17-0128 Comparison of linguistic strategies of right-wing populism (Germany - Austria - Czech Republic - Slovakia): lexicon - texts - discourses, principal investigator: Prof. Dr. Dr. rer. nat. Georg Schuppener, My role in the project: researcher. The project focuses on comparing the linguistic specifics and linguistic strategies of right-wing populists in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany. To this end, corpora with representative text material will be created in the initial phase of the project. Based on the collected material, typical lexicon will be identified in the next step. Based on the analysis of texts and characteristic discourses, the thematic and argumentative strategies of right-wing populist statements and speeches will then be examined in more detail. The research steps will first be carried out separately for each country under investigation, and the results will then be compared, which will allow for the specification of similarities and differences. These research steps will first be carried out separately for each of the countries under study, and the results will then be compared, which will make it possible to specify the similarities and differences between the linguistic strategies of right-wing populists in the four countries. Thanks to an interdisciplinary approach, the results of the analysis of linguistic specifics will be interpreted in a broader context of not only political and cultural interactions, but also psychosocial motives and relationships. From a pedagogical and didactic point of view, the research results will be evaluated in terms of their further usability and transferability to the field of education and training.
