VI.5 - Participation in conducting (leading) the most important research projects or art projects over the last six years

Project type: Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (VEGA)

Project number: VEGA 1/0650/22

Project name: Mass media communications in digital and print form and their understanding by various target groups

Solution period: 4/2022 - 12/2024 completed

Researcher position: researcher

Annotation: Researches from abroad report contradictory findings about the degree of understanding of media texts in print and digital form, caused by the length of the text, the type of digital media, the target group itself, etc. The current situation with COVID 19 has caused an intensified emphasis on digital communications in the media and other areas (education). The above inspired us to aim to investigate differences in perception, understanding and creative production of print and digital media text in age cohorts (adolescents and adults) from different media environments. We will use both modified and our own author's methods. Experts from leading universities in Poland will participate in the research. Considering the interdisciplinary overlaps of the research and the nature of the topic, we expect benefits on several levels. By clarifying the established factors, the basic theoretical base of mass media science, journalism, with spillovers into related disciplines will be supplemented and expanded.

Project number: 1/0192/18 Project name: Formation of the attitudes of generation Y in the V4 geographical area to the issue of migrants through digital communication on social networks

Solution period: 4/2018 - 12/2020 completed.

Researcher position: responsible researcher

Annotation: The project based on the principles of a transdisciplinary scientific approach (media and communication studies, political science, psychology and linguistics) investigated the social problem of migration and its reflection on social networks in the Visegrad area (with an emphasis on the comparison of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic) in the period of years 2015 -2020. A comparative analysis of the machine sentiment of the digital media of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in 2018-20 (Spálová et al., 2021) indicated a significantly negative long-term discourse of migration in terms of cultural threat and security risk in both countries, a deeper analysis showed a more significant effort by the Slovak Republic to enrich the dominant political discourse about the attributes of the "voice of migrants" and partially objectify the news.  We noticed a negative attitude towards migration in the mainstream media and an attitude of acceptance was more intense in the tabloid media. We have identified an effective integration model with active participation of citizens using the potential of social networks, an alternative discourse "we are all migrants".
