Project coordinator at FSV UCM: doc. PhDr. Jaroslav Mihalik, PhD.
Abstract: Active involvement of citizens in the process of political decision-making is a basic prerequisite for a stable democracy.
Includes not only traditional forms of representative democracy, but also institutions of direct civic participation such as a
referendum. Almost thirty years after the fall of communism in Central Europe, we want to focus on the V4 countries and evaluate
the use and implementation referendums in political practice and to find out the prospects for improving the quality of civic
participation in the region. The aim of the project is strengthening the cooperation of experts in the field of social sciences in the V4
and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the use of the referendum after 1989.
The material output of the project will be the elaboration of a publication primarily intended for non-governmental organizations,
think-thankoms, journalists, local authorities (primarily in the V4 countries) interested in strengthening civil society and actively
