VI.5 - Participation in conducting (leading) the most important research projects or art projects over the last six years

Growing Up in Digital Europe Preparation Phase (GUIDEPREP), Project No.: 101078945, Funding scheme: Horizon Europe, duration: 10/2022 – 10/2026.

The GUIDEPREP project develops the research infrastructure necessary to implement the GUIDE birth cohort study — Europe's first comparative birth cohort study of children's and young people's wellbeing. The aim of the GUIDE study is to track children's personal wellbeing and development, in combination with key indicators from their homes, neighbourhoods, and schools, across Europe. While comparative panel studies exist for adults in the European context, there is currently a lack of panel data for children that can be analysed comparatively across Europe. The preparatory work is designed to ready the research infrastructure for the full-scale piloting of GUIDE in 2026 and the first full wave of data collection in 2027. Once operational, GUIDE will collect data about individual children growing up in Europe until those children are aged 24 years, in approximately 2053. The GUIDE data will be used by a broad community including health, child development, family studies, psychology, sociology, demography, and economics, and will generate cross-culturally comparative results of great value to education, child and youth services, and government

European Centre for Citizenship Excellence (ECCE), Project No.: 101085665, Funding scheme: Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Actions in the field of Higher Education Teaching and Research, budget: 100 000€

The ECCE project responds to the need to strengthen the perception of European democracy and the legitimacy of the EU in Slovakia through education as the primary tool for reinforcing European identity and active citizenship. The Centre was established at the Institute of Political Sciences and Public Administration of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. Its main objective is to transfer the expertise of the research team members to secondary school teachers of subjects focused on EU affairs and democracy, so that the knowledge acquired can be integrated into their curricula. In this way, ECCE contributes to strengthening European identity and civic engagement among young people. The topics covered by the project activities address the most critical issues of contemporary EU politics and democracy. The Centre operates as a platform for research, teaching and capacity building, and its activities include seminars, workshops, the development of educational materials, and scientific publications.

Erasmus+ 2024-1-SK02-KA220-YOU-000248572 – Circular Economy Integration, Resources and Learning for Economic Sustainability, 2024–2026, principal investigator: doc. PhDr. Jaroslav Mihálik, PhD. Budget: €250,000.00

The CIRCLES project aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of European youth in the areas of circular economy, environmental sustainability, digital transformation, and active citizenship. The project is implemented by an international consortium of five organisations from Slovakia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Slovenia. Key outputs include the development of an educational video game CycleQuest available on the Steam platform, a curriculum for youth workers, a university-level syllabus focused on the circular economy, and community projects carried out in the partner countries. The project builds on the previously successful CETERIS PARIBUS project, and its outputs are intended for young people aged 13–30, youth workers, and the academic community. The project runs from September 2024 to July 2026.

Project title: Society in the Mirror of Water – Long-term Strategic Research in the Field of Wastewater Analysis as a Tool for Public Health Monitoring and Environmental Safety, Acronym: WATCH, Application code: NFP401101C229

Call: PSK-MSVVM-020-2024-DV-EFRR – RDI – Strategic Research and Development through Partnerships

Funding scheme: Programme Slovakia – ERDF (European Regional Development Fund)

Applicant: University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava

Total eligible expenditure: €10,771,922.13

Requested NFP amount: €9,999,955.95

Abstract:

The WATCH project focuses on long-term strategic research in the field of Wastewater-Based Epidemiology (WBE), with the aim of developing innovative tools for monitoring population health, the spread of infectious diseases, illegal activities, and environmental pollution. Wastewater represents a unique source of information enabling the identification of public health trends, detection of pathogens, monitoring of environmental pollution, and uncovering of illegal activities such as drug production or the discharge of toxic substances. The project is implemented by a consortium of seven entities led by the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, bringing together complementary interdisciplinary research teams from the public, state, and private sectors. The key project outputs include the SEWAGE MIND platform for early detection of environmental and security threats, CitySenseAI as a virtual city model for comprehensive pollution analysis, and DATA-CUBE, a database linking wastewater data with external health and environmental databases. The project makes use of artificial intelligence tools and SMART sensor technologies for the processing and visualisation of collected data.
